The pitch, and the pricing strategy bewitched me and every ad I watched took me back to my childhood, to the markets I visited, to the stallholders selling their wares, wonderfully, creatively and very, very effectively. Piling on the added extras like there was no tomorrow, more plates, teacups, extra coffee cups, everything including sometimes what seemed to be the kitchen sink.
Going in high - say at £120 - the price came down and down. Better and better value until people could hardly resist putting their hands in their pockets and handing over the cash. If not for the value of the deal itself then almost out of embarrassment for not having taken it earlier!
You know sometimes I’d even video the infomercials (28 minutes - always the length of a good pitch) so I could take them back to the UK and study them. On one occasion I resorted to pointing my video camera at the TV screen to make sure I could capture the magic.”
